It's hard to believe it's already 'that' time, again!!! Each evening at 6:30 p.m., during the week of July 21-25 is V.B.S. 2008 at Southside! We will then have our Final Program on Sunday Morning the 27th at 10:00 a.m. We're looking forward to an awesome week with Mrs. Doris and her Staff! There'll be songs, stories, crafts, prizes, lessons, food and TONS of fun! All KIDS that have been in Kindergarten (or in a classroom setting) through the 6th Grade are invited. You will NOT want to miss one single evening or the final Program, either! There will be Gift Cards given on Sunday Morning, from Berean Christian Bookstore, to the child/children who have brought a friend to V.B.S. every night and we prefer you to bring a DIFFERENT friend each time! PLEASE INVITE ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS AND YOUR FAMILY EVERY SINGLE EVENING!

A Summer as Busy as Bee's at Southside...

We're in the middle of a very busy Summer here at Southside... buzzing around like bee's without a honeycomb!!!

We're looking forward to an awesome V.B.S., during the week of July 21-25, with a brief Ceremony on the 27th. (Beginning next year, we will begin a new tradition at Southside... we will have 'Kidz Krusade'/'Family Kamp' services each evening Monday-Friday, with a Ceremony on either Friday evening or Saturday afternoon, depending on the Crusade Ministry Team each year.) Whether it's V.B.S. or Kidz Krusade, it's a very exciting time that NO ONE will want to miss out on!!!

Be watching for more details on our Kidz Konnect upcoming "Bible Story Nite", Day Trip to the "Children's Museum", the District Children's "Back-to-School Bash at Camp Camby", etc., etc., etc. We have many wonderful events planned and we want you to be aware and plan ahead for each of them!

Summer 2008 Has Officially Arrived at Southside...

This past Sunday, June 8th was our first major Summer Event... "Baby Day/Children's Day 2008"... and it was a raging success! Thank you to each person that assisted, whether behind the scenes or on the platform during the service! Without YOU, this day, wouldn't have been the success that it was... THANK YOU!!!

The theme of the day was, "God Made You Special". Mrs. Janice did a fantastic job being the "MC", Mrs. Trisha and Mr. Larry had a pretty little table set up for the "MC" and did almost ALL of the errand running for the day... buying gifts, etc. I could go on and on with those that helped but, I'm sure to miss someone if I try... Please just accept our thanks for a job MORE than well done!!!

The Baby Day "Parade" was adorable, each and every baby/toddler looked precious and did a great job... not a tear in the bunch!!! They each received a Photo Album to take home and we can't wait to see them again next year!

The Jr. Worship aged Children each received a token to remind them how "Special" they are to God... Mrs. Doris and her Staff also presented them with a yummy lunch after the Service followed with Games to boot! Thank You, Ladies (and Mr. Rich, too!), for a wonderful time together!!!

NOW, on to more UPCOMING Events that we are looking forward to here at Southside!

A "Camp-themed" V.B.S. 2008 will be here before you can count to 3...

That's ONLY about 5 weeks away or so, now!!!

King's Kidz Klub is up and running for the Summer and it's turning out to be very interesting! A week ago, (June 4th), we had "Karaoke Nite" and BOY was it ever fun! We have quite a bit of talent in these kids!!! Good job, guys and gals! This coming Wednesday night (June 18th) is "Kidz Kraft Nite" at King's Kidz Klub with Mrs. Mari and her Staff... PLEASE bring a friend and be ready for some FUN!!! Last night (June 11th), we had "Free-for-All-Time" outdoors, with myself, Mr. Greg and Mrs. Kathy... it was the perfect night for it, too... the weather was beautiful, sunny, gentle winds, etc.!

HEY KIDS... REMEMBER THIS SUNDAY IS "FATHER'S DAY"... DO SOMETHING REALLY REALLY REALLY SPECIAL FOR YOUR DAD THIS WEEK!!!

Our annual "Baby Day 2008 Parade" is Sunday, June 8th at 10:30A.M.
ADULTS: If you are the parents, grandparents (or know of someone close to you) of a child in the Newborn through 2 years of age bracket... PLEASE REGISTER EACH CHILD(REN) IN THE CHURCH FOYER - BEFORE SUNDAY SCHOOL - PREFERABLY AT 9A.M. FOR THIS PARADE!!!
Each baby (0-2 yrs.) that participates in the Parade, will also be given a special gift from the Kidz Konnect Department, during the Morning Worship Service.
Our annual "Children's Day 2008" is Sunday, June 8th at 10:30 A.M.
KIDS AND ADULTS: All children, over 2 years of age and under 13 years of age, attending the Service this Sunday Morning, June 8th will join Mrs. Doris in a choral number to open the Morning Worship. Each child will also be given a small token of love, from the Kidz Konnect Department, following the Service.
We're looking forward to a really fun time of awesome music, giving gifts, watching the "Baby Day 2008 Parade", etc. - - - We certainly hope and pray that every one of you will join us!

Jumpin' Jehoshaphat - Praise Works!!!

While doing a little research online, I found the Story below and thought it would be neat to post a Bible Story, instead of a BLOG for a change!
If you're ever in doubt that God is there to help you when you need it... just remember this Story and you'll never doubt, again!

"Jumpin' Jehoshaphat - Praise Works!!!"

Based on 2 Chronicles 20:1-30

Jehoshaphat, who was ruler of Judah, was an awesome king. He knew the importance of making God first in his life and in the lives of his people. From the very beginning, he began removing all those silly idol shrines throughout the country. He knew that no god made out of rock or wood could help his people. He urged them all to turn their attention to the one true God. Only God could really help his people. And his efforts paid off in a very big way. During his reign, their faith was put to the test when three great armies came against them. When word of the invasion reached Jehoshaphat, he immediately declared a fast for all of Judah. He commanded everyone, young and old, to gather at Jerusalem to seek an answer from the Lord. Jehoshaphat stood among the crowd that gathered and prayed, "O God of our fathers, You are above every other kingdom. You led us out of Egypt and drove out all the inhabitants of this land before us. When we have faced trouble, You have delivered us. Now, the people of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir are coming against Your people. These are the same nations that You prevented us from destroying when we left Egypt. We have no strength to face this vast army, but we know You have a plan to deliver us!" And so all of Jerusalem waited patiently for the Lord to speak. And then the Spirit of the Lord spoke, through a Levite named Jahaziel who said, "Don't be afraid of this vast army because the battle is not yours, but Mine. Tomorrow, march down to meet them, for I will be with you. You will not fight this battle. You will stand still and see My salvation." And then Jehoshaphat and all of Jerusalem bowed to the ground worshiping the Lord. And the Levites stood up and praised the Lord. The next morning they got up early and prepared to march out to meet the invaders. Jehoshaphat addressed the army, "Listen to me Judah and residents of Jerusalem; Trust in the Lord your God and you will never fail. Believe His prophets and you will always prosper!" He then appointed a choir to march before the army and praise God. As they marched they sang, "Praise the Lord, for His mercy lasts forever!" And as soon as they began praising God, confusion erupted in the invaders' camps. Two of the armies turned on the other and destroyed it. Then, they turned on each other until every soldier was killed. When Jehoshaphat's army reached a hill overlooking the invaders' camps, there was nothing but dead soldiers as far as they could see. None had escaped. Jehoshaphat's army sacked the enemies' camp and found precious jewels, clothes, weapons, animals and food in abundance. It took them three days to remove all the loot. On the fourth day they gathered in the valley and praised the Lord for the great victory. They returned to Jerusalem with joy, playing trumpets and harps in celebration. The rest of Jehoshaphat's reign was very peaceful. All the nearby countries heard how God had fought for Judah. They knew that any attack on Judah was an attack on God, and no man can fight against the one true God.

A One-Day Road Trip for Mrs. Shelly and Family

Mrs. Shelly was gone this past Thursday (the 22nd) on a 'one-day road trip'... Therefore, a BLOG was not posted for this week.
Don't fret, she and her family are back and will be present for services on Sunday, (remember it was only a 'one day' trip!!!)

Bored ALREADY and Summer's Only Just Begun!!!

You're already bored and Summer's just beginning??? Well, here are a few tips and tricks to get you right out of your BOREDOM!!! (Click on the pic below for your 'freedom from boredom'...)

Dig for Buried Treasures:
To start, ask your parents for permission to go through your house and gather some trinkets or toys, you don’t mind burying. Next, put together a treasure-finding tool kit that includes a hand shovel, an old paintbrush (to clean off unearthed treasures), Ziploc bags (to contain what's found) and a map showing the 'Searcher' where to start the search. Then, either bury the treasures in your garden/yard (placing them in an area without plants is a good idea) or in a large bucket filled with dirt from your backyard.
Now, it's time to have your friends or even you yourself, scavenge for treasures! For an extra bit of fun, you can label your "finds" with made-up names and place them in a “museum” (or on a serving platter) to share with your family and any visitors/guests that come to your house during the week.
Why do stars twinkle? Or, Where did the moon go? Or, Is Mars further away from Pluto? How about, How can I get to Venus? Are there aliens there? Okay, while we don’t have all the answers, we do have some ideas to get you started... Checking out the dreamy night sky is as easy as grabbing a flashlight, finding a spot on the grass and looking up. Here are some star gazing tips, including activities, to make your exploration a success.
Star Facts:
What is a star?A star is a big ball of gas that changes color and size over billions of years. On any given night, up to two thousand stars light up the sky – each one unique in shape and form. You can see stars best on a clear night in a dark spot, away from bright lights.
You can also see a star during the day. The sun is the brightest and biggest star in our universe—and probably the one that kids are most familiar with. This five-billion-year-old star is easy to spot, which makes it a great place to begin when learning about star gazing.
If you’re an early riser, watch the sun rise in the east. The whole process takes about a half hour, with lots of cool colors and a first look at the gradual transformation from night to day.
If you’re more of a night owl, the sun sets in the west so you can watch the reverse process together when the sun goes down.
Here is a YUMMY summer drink for you to make for yourself right at home:
"Lime Rickey's" are a cool and refreshing way to quench your thirst, but you can also change the flavor of this recipe simply by blending your favorite flavored syrups.
Ingredients:
1 lime, quartered
8 fluid ounces carbonated water
1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger raspberry syrup
Cooking Instructions:
Fill a tall glass with ice. Squeeze each of the lime wedges into glass, and drop in. Fill glass nearly to the top with carbonated water, and top with raspberry syrup.
Preparation Time: 2 min. Cooking Time: 0 Ready In: 2 min. Servings: 1
Maybe you're a little more hungry than thirsty? Here's a quick little snack you can make for yourself:
"Edible Rocket's" are a great way to blast off to space and a very delicious treat, too!
What you need:
- 4 baby carrots
- 1 apple
- Paring knife
- 1 banana
- 1 large plate
Instructions:
1. Peel and cut the banana in half and place it in the middle of your plate. The banana will be the body of your rocket. 2. Parent Alert: Use the paring knife to cut a few apple wedges to place below the body of your rocket. The apples will be your rocket fire. 3. Put two baby carrots on each side of the banana. The carrots will be the wings of the rocket. 4. Once you have all the pieces in place, you’re ready for lift off so dig in!

MOTHER: A word that means the world to me…

Full-time Mother’s don't get weekends off, sick time or vacation days and they work 24/7, 365 days a week. However, Mother’s do get bonuses and one such bonus is a day in their ‘honor’, Mother's Day. This special day may be celebrated on different days of the year, in different countries, but in all countries it has one thing in common... And that is to honor Mother’s or the memory of a Mother.
One the best ways to celebrate Mother’s Day is to give your own Mother the day off. Let her take it easy and relax while the rest of the family does the work. Maybe you could begin the day with breakfast in bed. (Yummy… sounds pretty good to me!) You and Dad could let your her sleep in late while the two of you slip into the kitchen and prepare her favorite meal. A Mother's Day breakfast can consist of anything she likes. (Even if it’s just toast with PB and coffee or waffles with fruit and juice!!!) Place the food nicely on a tray… (don't forget a vase with a single flower.) Then, carry the tray up to her bedroom… cards and small presents can also be placed on the tray, as well. Another good idea to make the day even more special is to cook up a nice meal at home later in the day or take her out to her favorite Restaurant. Mother's Day is a great day to let that 'special lady' at your house relax and see what a wonderful family she has been blessed with.
Dallas Holm, a long time singer/songwriter (of such songs as “Rise Again“ and “Jesus Got Ahold of My Life”), has been called everything from a Christian Music Pioneer to a Legend and an Icon. For Mother's Day 2008, Dallas shared this, one of his biggest fans is his Mother. Dallas said, "Mom was and remains one of my biggest fans... She and Dad bought my brother and I our first guitars and encouraged us on our musical journey. She is a wise and funny woman who continues to be a source of inspiration and guidance to me." When asked how he has managed to still be a husband and a dad while being on the road for so many years, Dallas replied, "In the years I have toured and throughout all of my ministry, I’ve always had a priority system that put God first, family second and ministry third.”
A Prayer for Mother's Day:
"Dear Jesus, We thank You for adopting us into your family through the miracle of Your grace, and for calling us to be brothers and sisters to each other. Today, loving God, we pray for our mothers: who cared for us when we were helpless, who comforted us when we were hurt, whose love and care we often take for granted. Today we also pray for those who are grieving the loss of their mother, those who never knew their biological mother and may even now yearn for her, those who have experienced the wonder of an adopted mother's love and the many families separated by war or conflict. Lord, give them each a special blessing from You, today. Keep us united with You and with each other, so that we can be and become all that we are meant to be. Amen."
